"My name is Corey and my husband is Dewey — we got married quickly after only dating for six months. Marriage started out great. We had very different backgrounds from childhood and adulthood. I chose Dewey because I knew he had lived a lot of life, walked through some hard times and came out on the other side. This was not my first marriage and I had learned I needed someone strong who could withstand a storm with me. Someone who wouldn't give up easily. In the first year of marriage, Dewey started to grow closer to God in many aspects. A year later, Dewey and I were struggling to get along and find our way. It seemed the more he tried to grow in his relationship with the Lord, the heavier the attacks came to his mind. He told me he heard an audible voice in his head say, " Your purpose for marrying Corey was to draw closer to God and now that you've done that, your mission or season here in this marriage is over." Dewey was completely convinced. Not only was he convinced our marriage was over but he was also convinced that the Lord was the one telling him that. And that's how the enemy works in our relationships; he deceives us. He twists and turns things. I tried to have conversations with Dewey several times to get him to think about why the Lord wouldn't want him to leave a bride who drew him closer to Himself. Since Dewey's thoughts didn't align with scripture, I knew it was the enemy but when you're dealing with somebody who is blinded and deceived, there's nothing that you can do or say — it takes prayer and fighting spiritually. So Dewey moved out. I couldn't afford the home on my own, so I moved out too and rented a smaller place. This was the hardest season I have ever endured. I felt completely alone, yet I had such a communion with the Holy Spirit because I was clinging to the feet of Jesus; I knew that He was the only one who could fix this. I had a deep call in my heart to fight for my marriage. I look back and as hard and painful as that season was in my life, the closeness and depth of my relationship with Christ was powerful. I went to war for my marriage. I prayed, I fasted. I set a timer on my phone and prayed for Dewey every single hour of every day. I really felt like the Lord told me not to reach out to him, so I didn't speak to him very often over the course of about four months. During this time that I was warring for Dewey and my marriage, the Lord healed the parts of me that needed to be healed. He aligned me with His heart. My obedience to the Holy Spirit and God's Word is what brought my breakthrough. I stood on the promises of God. I found the page "Standing Supernaturally for Marriage Restoration" online and signed up for their Academy. It was helpful and a wonderful support system. The people I met there were a Godsend to me. In an instant, literally overnight, the Lord softened Dewey's heart, removed the scales from his eyes and changed everything. The man who came home was a completely different man. The Lord did more than restore my marriage. He took it and gave me something so much better than I could have even imagined."
