WEEKLY DEVOTIONAL: Nothing Is Impossible As You Stand For Marriage Restoration
“For nothing will be impossible with God.” - Luke 1:37 (ESV) I want you to look at one of the most straightforward and essential verses that I believe you need if you are standing for marriage restoration: Luke 1:37 “For nothing will be impossible with God.” This verse is what an angel of the Lord spoke to Mary to encourage her with this amazing truth. I can imagine Mary wanting more information about what was going on and about to happen to her. I bet Mary was desiring the conversation to be something like this… “Mary, something is happening to you that might just test your understanding. But there is a truth I need you to know, a revelation that will seem impossible. Trust in God throughout this whole process.” But the angel pretty much kept to the facts. She was going to give birth to a son even though she was still a virgin. He was telling her something would happen that was completely impossible, but not much more than that. So Mary had a choice. Does she look at the natural history of how babies are born and accept only what she could see, or does she embrace this heavenly message that sounds totally impossible? Mary chose the latter! She received the word of the Lord and fully embraced that nothing is impossible with God. This divinely inspired message declaring God’s unimaginable power, “For nothing will be impossible with God,” is the same truth I want you to accept as you are standing for your marriage. The angel gave Mary an assignment from our Heavenly Father that looked completely impossible. But the message was genuine. And just like Mary, God is inviting you to believe Him and to count on His power to fulfill His assignments in your life, regardless of how impossible it seems. And here lies most standers’ roadblocks. The circumstances around your marriage and the feelings you’re experiencing do not dictate what God is able and wants to do. Many accept Luke 1:37 as theologically accurate but have not allowed this aspect of God’s power to take root in their spirit and soul, and therefore struggle to trust God to do the impossible for their marriage. May I ask you an honest question as we begin? Do you struggle with believing that your family restoration is too much for God? Do you consider Him too weak and powerless to heal, restore, and resurrect? We know that with just men, miracles are impossible. But when Mary heard and meditated upon the simple statement, “With God, all things are possible,” she was encouraged and likely energized! That statement might have been offensive to her mind, but it came alive in her soul. As you begin this 40-day journey of standing supernaturally for your marriage, this is a verse I want you to remember continually! Allow it to be your anchor, for nothing will be impossible with God. Your spouse might tell you that restoration is impossible, your friends and family might say move on it’s impossible, and YOU might even think it’s impossible, but God does not agree with those opinions. You might feel you can’t do what it takes to hang on and have faith through this process. The great news is you’re not doing it alone. For nothing is impossible with God. So, no matter how bad it looks or how long you’ve been standing, remember this simple truth today: nothing is impossible with God. Allow this straightforward verse to be the foundation you are standing on during these 40 days. So, as you stand supernaturally for your marriage, believe that your marriage is getting restored! Why? For nothing is impossible with God! As you begin this 40-day journey, I encourage you to allow the truth of God’s power to fuel your hope of marital restoration. It doesn’t matter what is needed for the breakthrough to occur, whatever is lacking, whatever creative miracle is required, and whatever transformation must occur. You must look at this powerful text in Luke 1:37 and choose to anchor your soul to it. “For nothing will be impossible with God!” Let me share a piece of my own story with you as we begin. When my wife Christine left, it was a shock. She left without warning on Mother’s Day, took the kids and a cat, and secretly moved into a women’s abuse shelter. According to the state of Texas, my marriage eventually became dead — but I know Someone who specializes in raising dead things! I kept standing, loving, and believing, as Romans 4:18 describes, “hoping against hope,” knowing that God would restore and resurrect my marriage even against all odds. Did it work? Just two months after the divorce was finalized, Christine came back home, and four days later, we got remarried in Las Vegas with her parents as witnesses and her dad officiating the wedding! What once was dead was now restored. Did Christine ever tell me it was over? Constantly. Did she ever ask me to move on? Often. Did she say I was to blame and that it was too late to fix it? Many times. So allow our testimony to encourage you and to remind you to keep your eyes on Jesus and NOT on what your spouse is doing or even tells you. Never forget this simple truth: Nothing is impossible with God.
