September 14 2026 Devotional:A Little Suffering, But He Will Restore As You Stand For Marriage Restoration
“…so after you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation.” - 1 Peter 5:10b (NLT) Don’t skip today’s devotional! I know today’s title is not something you necessarily want to hear about, but it is vitally important while standing for your marriage. Not one stander I know — including me during my stand — wants to suffer. It would be idiotic to desire that. But in today’s scripture, we see that suffering will most likely be part of the process of being restored. 1 Peter 5:10b in the NLT says, “So after you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation.” This is such an important truth we must lean into. When we are in the middle of suffering, it is easy to believe it will last forever. That is not the case. The scripture says after you have suffered “a little while.” Now, I know many of you have been standing and suffering for what most would say is more than a little while. But allow me to encourage you that this verse has a promise. The promise is that the suffering will end and He will restore you! I am here to proclaim to you that the suffering of your stand will not last forever. The rest of the verse is what I want you to declare and believe is your portion for today. This verse in 1 Peter 5:10 mentions four things God is giving you. First, the promise of restoration. Need I say more? Your restoration is coming! Secondly, support. God is promising to support you in this season. He is not going to let you stand alone. He will bring you the supernatural support and assistance you need this season. Thirdly, it says He will strengthen you. Remember that your strength comes from the Lord and not your external circumstances during those moments you feel you cannot go on anymore. And finally, it says He will place you on a firm foundation. When the suffering and difficulty of standing seem to shake the very core of your life, be reminded of the promise that God is placing you on a firm foundation. When divorce papers come, you can still stand on a firm foundation. God will place you on a firm foundation when your finances are a wreck and He will give your family a firm foundation when your children act out. In the journey of standing for your marriage, understanding the role of suffering as outlined in 1 Peter 5:10 is crucial. Suffering, while challenging, is often a transformative phase that deepens faith and resilience. It is important to view this period not just as a trial to endure but as a season of spiritual growth and preparation for the blessings and restoration God has promised. Allow it to refine and strengthen you, preparing your heart and spirit for the restoration God promises. Allow the firm foundation God promises to become an unshakable truth of God’s love, providing stability and hope regardless of external circumstances. This foundation is your constant in the midst of suffering as you stand. So today, while suffering might be an unfortunate part of the journey towards marriage restoration, it is not without purpose or hope. Embrace this season as a time of spiritual deepening and hold on to the promises of restoration, support, strength and a firm foundation. Let these truths comfort and guide you, as they are not just future hopes but present realities, leading you toward fulfilling God’s promises in your life and marriage. Remember, my friend, the suffering is only for a little while. What is coming — restoration, support, strength and a firm foundation — is going to outlast every night you have cried and every day you have wanted to quit. Keep standing. He is bringing all four of these promises to your doorstep, and the biggest one is the marriage you have been believing for.
