July 27 2026 Devotional: The Sitting Season As You Stand For Marriage Restoration
“Moses answered the people, ‘Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.’” - Exodus 14:13-14 (NIV) In the journey of standing for the restoration of your marriage, there comes a season that is very difficult for many standers and actually seems counterintuitive, we call it the Sitting Season. This is a period where you’re called not to fight the battle with your own strength but to let God fight for you. In Exodus 14:13-14, we find a powerful example of God’s people facing an impossible situation, the Red Sea before them and the pursuing Egyptians behind them. Yet, God’s instruction to them is clear: “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” Today, we’ll explore the significance of the sitting season as you stand for marriage restoration and how, when you trust God’s battle plan, you’ll see victory in ways you could never achieve on your own. While you stand for your marriage, it’s easy to believe that you must take control and fight your way to victory. However, God’s ways often challenge our instincts. Just as He told the Israelites, He reminds you today, “The Lord will fight for you.” The battle for your marriage belongs to Him and in this sitting season, your role is to trust and be still. Allow me to say that again. Your role is to TRUST! What makes trust so hard? Well, fear often creeps in when we’re instructed to be still. The Israelites faced this fear as they saw the Egyptians approaching. But God’s message was clear: “Do not be afraid.” When you release your fears and anxieties to God, you make room for Him to work miracles in your situation. Fear dissipates in the presence of trust. While the sitting season may seem passive, it requires a firm stance of faith. God told the Israelites to “stand firm.” Standing firm is an act of faith, a declaration that you believe in God’s ability to fight for your marriage. It’s a posture of readiness to witness God’s miraculous intervention. God assured the Israelites that they would “see the deliverance the Lord will bring.” Similarly, as you sit still in trust, be confident that you’ll witness the deliverance of your marriage. It might not happen in your timing or even according to your plan but God’s deliverance is always perfect and complete. The very things that pursued you, like the Egyptians pursuing the Israelites, will be defeated and never be seen again. The sitting season is an invitation to surrender control and allow God to reveal His power and glory. It’s about recognizing that, on your own, you can only do so much. But when you trust God to fight for you, you access His infinite strength, wisdom, and His supernatural intervention. Victory in the sitting season is sweeter because it’s entirely God’s doing. Be cautious; self-reliance is a common stumbling block in the sitting season. We often believe that if we only work hard enough, we can fix our marriages. However, God’s message remains consistent: “Be still.” It’s a reminder that victory isn’t achieved through human effort alone but by surrendering control to the One who can bring the impossible to pass. In the sitting season, as you stand for the restoration of your marriage, remember that the battle isn’t yours to fight alone. Just as God fought for the Israelites, He fights for you. Release your fears, stand firm in faith and trust that the victory you’ll witness will be a testament to His faithfulness. The sitting season is a time of surrender, a lesson on trust, a time you watch God’s mighty hand at work and a time to be still and know that He is God. In stillness, you’ll find victory in ways you could have never achieved through your own strength.
