August 3 2026 Devotional: Just Stand Firm And Don’t Give Up As You Stand For Marriage Restoration
“Therefore put on God’s complete armor, that you may be able to resist and stand your ground on the evil day [of danger], and, having done all [the crisis demands], to stand [firmly in your place].” - Ephesians 6:13 (AMP) Today, I want to share with you another way you advance as a stander, and that is through the simple act of standing firm and not giving up. I remember when I was standing for my marriage, I clearly heard the Lord tell me, “Jason, I want you to be supernaturally stubborn for my promises.” He told me not to budge in my pursuit of restoration, even if it looks like I’m just being stubborn to the rest of the world. He was saying to me, just stand firm and don’t quit. Today’s verse reminds us that there is power in simply standing firm and not giving up. I love how the Amplified Version of Ephesians 6:13 encourages us to “put on the complete armor of God, to resist and stand our ground in the evil day, and having done everything that the crisis demands, to stand firm.” I want you to know an incredible truth that, sometimes, victory comes when you just refuse to quit and choose to do all that the crisis demands. Ephesians 6:13 opens with a call to put on the complete armor of God. This armor includes the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit (God’s Word). Each piece is vital for your spiritual protection in the battle for your marriage. It’s not a passive stance but an active preparation for the challenges you will face. I am sure we have all heard amazing messages on the Armor of God but I want to focus on what is said next after we put on the armor. The verse continues, urging us to resist evil and stand our ground. In the face of adversity, this means not backing down from our commitment to see our marriage restored. It means firmly holding on to the promises of God and refusing to be moved by circumstances or emotions. Please know, my friend, that you have been equipped to stand your ground against the forces that seek to destroy your marriage. For me, the most powerful part of how the Amplified Version writes Ephesians 6:13 is the call to “do everything that the crisis demands.” This is where your perseverance and faith are put to the test. It’s not about doing everything you think should be done but everything that the crisis requires. Sometimes, it demands forgiveness, patience, understanding, sacrificial love that is often one-way and yes, long-suffering and endurance. The last two, long-suffering and endurance, are what most people, especially us in the Western world, run from and believe we should never have to experience. But long-suffering and endurance are not signs of victimhood but are actual fruits of the Holy Spirit that God wants us to have. Don’t reject or discount these. They are crucial and beautiful. Galatians 6:9 also reminds us not to become weary in doing good. As you stand for your marriage, your efforts to love, forgive and persevere are not in vain. That verse says, “In due season, at the proper time, you will reap a harvest,” but please notice that it does add a conditional phrase at the end of the verse. “If you do not give up.” We must not stop! We must not quit! We must not give up! A major reason that you will win this battle by just standing firm and not giving up is because your perseverance, patience and long-suffering are fruits of the Holy Spirit, as mentioned in Galatians 5:22-23. These supernatural qualities are only available to believers, NOT available to the enemy of your marriage. The demons lack these virtues, which means you will eventually outlast the demonic forces that seek to destroy your marriage. Never forget, the devil doesn’t possess the enduring qualities of the Holy Spirit and when faced with your long-suffering and endurance, he will eventually move on, defeated. In your steadfast, unmovable commitment to your marriage, you display the very attributes of God and in due time, you will reap the harvest of restoration because the devil will undoubtedly quit and find someone else to torment. He simply cannot prevail where the Spirit’s fruit thrives. I understand that in your journey to stand for your marriage, there will be moments of weariness, doubt and discouragement. But take heart; you are not alone in this battle. God is with you, empowering you to stand firm and not give up. Your commitment to do “all that the crisis demands” will ultimately lead to victory. The crisis may be demanding but with God’s strength, you can endure and overcome. In the end, you will reap the harvest of marriage restoration. So, just stand firm and don’t quit, for you will win this battle if you don’t give up.
